On the 2nd, near the Kurushima Straits northwest of Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, the cargo ship Seiryu (716 tons) from Toba City, Mie Prefecture collided with another cargo ship and sank. The search for the missing captain and first officer continues.

On the 4th, a special rescue team dived into the sea and investigated a ship that is believed to be a sunken ship, but so far no clues have been found that lead to the discovery.

According to the Japan Coast Guard, it is difficult to investigate because the water depth is about 60 meters and the visibility is extremely poor and the water temperature is low.

The Coast Guard will continue to dive into the sea while assessing the tide conditions, search for the two people, and check the condition of the hull.

On the afternoon of the 4th, an accident investigator from the Japan Transport Safety Board visited the Imabari Coast Guard Office.

In the future, we will proceed with the investigation by interviewing the crew members of both ships about the situation at the time of the accident in order to investigate the cause of the accident.
