• Media EL MUNDO reinforces its management team with a new generation

Committed.

Modern.

Straight.

And brave.

EL MUNDO launches its first global redesign this Wednesday, an ambitious commitment to evolve the newspaper both in its print version and on the web.

In the same direction and with a new typography to unify all our content.

On the pages of the newspaper and from today on the digital cover you can read

Mundo

, the new source with which we will write our chronicles, news, reports and interviews.

It will be incorporated over the next few days in all formats.

"We needed to have a new typeface that would work well for us on both supports," explains

María González Manteca

, deputy director of Design at EL MUNDO.

«This new typeface is more modern, versatile, it has character.

It also has a wide range of thicknesses that allows us to better prioritize information in headlines and in small sizes.”

It will be the same on the pages of the newspaper and in its digital version.

On the internet, EL MUNDO changes its look almost four years after its last redesign.

If then, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the newspaper, a clear aesthetic renovation was opted for to modernize the visual presentation and prop up the brand and the identity seal of the newspaper in its digital edition, now it seeks

greater ease of reading and a better hierarchy of the contents

.

“We wanted to achieve a sense of order on the cover that would make browsing it easier and more enjoyable,” says González Manteca.

To this end,

the EL MUNDO website now has a larger page width

, on a 20-column grid that allows content to be organized clearly and efficiently.

Our page suppresses the background that our headlines used to have and groups the news thematically in horizontal strips, which are titled so that the reader knows at all times where they are on the front page.

"Information websites had a historical debt with their readers in terms of design," says

Vicente Ruiz

, deputy director of EL MUNDO.

«Content loading times and usability have improved remarkably in recent years and the click of each pixel has been squeezed to the extreme.

This has allowed us to reach new audiences.

For most media, that may be enough, but not for us."

The newspaper incorporates new sections, a different hierarchy and its own typography for both print and web

EL MUNDO was the first Spanish newspaper to reach the Internet, the first to launch

a subscription model to access its content on the Internet

, and the first to reach new communication channels that until now were foreign to journalism in our country, such as ,

TikTok

.

The new redesign is once again a commitment to place the headend at the technological forefront.

“We are going to recover the historical values of any great medium, adding more hierarchy to our cover, with the aim of helping our readers to better understand the world around them”, explains Ruiz.

The web design evolves to a more intuitive one that facilitates navigation and allows users to quickly identify the big news of the day.

A more organized and versatile cover

is built to present the contents

.

And it is committed to a cleaner and more orderly design, which groups the information by thematic blocks so that readers can find what they are looking for quickly and intuitively.

The Opinion block, flagship of the newspaper and indisputable reference in the national press, now gains more importance on the Internet and will be more visible on our page.

The cover also incorporates some news to understand at a glance what the big news of the day is.

With the

Live Feed

, the band that tops the page each day, you will be able to access the latest updates.

And the Live module will allow us to show from the home the coverage of any information in real time.

«One of the hallmarks of our website has always been the last minute and that is why we incorporated a new, more visible and versatile alert system that will be present on all devices and that is complemented by a new live tool that will also have a permanent presence on the cover”, says Vicente Ruiz.

We also incorporated a new section called

For you

, in which each reader will be able to access personalized content adapted to their interests.

The grid of our website is

responsive

: it adjusts to the size of the device on which the information is displayed, whether in its desktop or mobile version.

The printed version of EL MUNDO, which continues to be an indisputable reference in international press design, also adapts to the new times.

The header is again centered and in the highest part of the cover and for the first time in our history, the first pages of the newspaper will not be for the Opinion section, but for the

Primer Plano

, a section that will be dedicated to the informative commitment of the day

Great exclusives, in-depth reports, research papers and the best chronicles will be the first thing our readers find at the kiosk with a more attractive format than ever.

The rest of the journal will follow the traditional sequence.

After the Close-up, we will offer the Opinion section.

And then Spain, World, Economy...

The cover of

Papel

, the daily magazine of EL MUNDO and a sign of identity in the design area of this newspaper, is also renewed with the same style as the Sunday edition, although it retains the white background during the week.

It does change color,

DXT

, the supplement that collects the best sports information every Monday, which will debut a blue background pattern to distinguish itself from the rest of the pages.

The ultimate goal is to innovate in order to maintain our inescapable commitment to readers.

As

Joaquín Manso

, director of EL MUNDO, assures: "In this new stage we want to continue telling you, in a more intuitive, visual and direct way, the truth, the truth however uncomfortable it may be."
