Pupils from the Paul-Bert and Jean-Macé schools in Lagny-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne) discovered mealworms in their pasta in the canteen on Monday.

The approximately 1,000 other meals prepared in the city's central kitchen were thrown away.

Ingestion of these insects is safe for people who are not allergic to them, specifies

The worms are said to have been present in the packets of branded pasta used to feed the pupils of all the schools in the commune.

Pierre Tebaldini, the chief of staff of the mayor (Agir) Jean-Paul Michel, assured that the bags were never kept once opened and intends to inform the supplier.

The city councilor for his part mentioned the problem on Twitter.

Following a problem with the meals served this afternoon in the canteens, these have been removed and replacement meals are delivered.
