The department store Tokyu Department Store, which has been in business for more than half a century in Shibuya, Tokyo, will close today on the 31st due to the redevelopment of the city.

The store was visited by a large number of shoppers.

The main store of Tokyu Department Store opened in 1967, and together with Bunkamura, a multi-purpose cultural facility that opened next door in 1989, it has become a symbol of the city of Shibuya, transmitting cutting-edge culture and trends. We have continued to operate.

However, as the building deteriorated, it was decided to close on the 31st as part of the redevelopment of Shibuya.

On the 31st, the last business day, a large number of shoppers were visiting while the closing sale was being held.

A woman in her 60s who visited the shoe department on the 5th floor said, ``I've been shopping with my friends since I was a student. I would like to say thank you to the store," he said.

The store will close at 7:00 pm after this, closing the curtain on its 55-year history.

On the site, a 36-story complex with commercial facilities and luxury hotels scheduled to be completed in 2027 will be built, and the appearance of Shibuya will change once again.

Mitsuhiro Inaba, the manager of Tokyu Department Store Main Store, said, "Today, even before the store opened, more people visited than I have ever seen, and I realized that we have been supported by customers again. They have supported us for a long time. I want to thank our customers," he said.
