Cheung Po-sing, a Hong Kong double hook calligrapher, is demonstrating his skills.

The so-called "double hook calligraphy" refers to the hollow characters written in a single line with a pen.

This method originated in the Tang Dynasty. At that time, because there was no printing technology, in order to preserve the works of famous masters, people outlined hollow characters according to the original works, and then filled them with black ink, so that works similar to the authentic ones could be circulated.

This copying technique has since become a way for people to learn calligraphy, and has developed into the "double hook" technique, one of the Chinese calligraphy arts.

  According to historical records, double-hook calligraphy first appeared in the Tang Dynasty.

Because at that time, people like Wang Xizhi, Zhong Yao, Mrs. Wei, and Zhang Zhi from the Song and Jin dynasties, because after so many years of inheritance, what was written on silk or paper disappeared and rotted.

So Tang Taizong Li Shimin liked calligraphy very much, so he tried every means to "cheat" Wang Xizhi's "Lanting Preface" and ordered several ministers to write it.

Just put the original copy at the bottom, use thin silk paper on the outside, and use a small pen to hook on the top. The outside is hooked out, and then the inside is filled with ink. Therefore, the best works handed down today are not those few great calligraphers. Feng Chengsu's double hook is the best.

  I have been sensible since I was five or six years old. My mother took me to my grandparents' house. I fell in love with the double hook (calligraphy) written by my grandpa. I fell in love with it.

The simpler the font is, the more difficult it is to write, because each character has an imposing manner, a flavor and charm, ink rhyme, many strokes, it is compact and beautiful, and the simpler the strokes are, the more difficult it is to write, that's it.

  [Explanation] After copying everyone's famous posts year after year, Zhang Baosheng finally practiced the "double hook" technique and formed his own unique calligraphy style.

  There used to be a way to make characters like this, get a lamp from this room, and the other room is quite dark, and the shadow of that lamp shines through, and there is a shadow over there. If the light is further away, the characters will be smaller, and if the lamp is closer It's big, it's called "shadow".

We are now called Tuoying Shuanggou. You don’t need to write it when you are familiar with it. As your own body, it’s like mine, it’s all my own body, because I’ve read too much, and famous artists have seen too much, and it’s naturally produced. a body of oneself.

  The double hook is to write down the outer frame of the calligraphy brush to form a character. Now I write the two characters of Ruyi, what is the double hook of the pen, and what is the double hook of a stroke.

  [Explanation] For most of his life in creating double hook calligraphy, in Zhang Baosheng's view, the best way to inherit the art of calligraphy as the quintessence of the country is to innovate in the process of inheritance.

In recent years, he has created many new works through the ingenious fusion of double hook calligraphy and other art forms.

  In addition to the traditional double-hook works, I also created a lot of sketches, that is, I wrote the name (in) the surname at the back and the first name at the front, forming a pattern, just like the two works I hold in my hand.

Then the word "Fu" behind me, blessing and longevity is equal to the sky, is called "painting in the word". The "Fu" character inside is painted with longevity peaches, pine trees, green mountains and rivers, and the meaning of boundless happiness and longevity.
