She comes from very far away, Algeria, and the 40,000 spectators at the Nelson-Mandela stadium can testify to that.

She came back from an elimination, which hung in her face, to an unexpected qualification in the last minutes of regulation time.

The tears of Alexis Guendouz, the titular goalkeeper, sums up the whole evening and the emotions experienced by Madjid Bougherra's men.

The goalkeeper could not hold back his tears, in fact, when he was sent off, after intervention by the VAR, in the 20th minute by Mauritanian referee Abdel Aziz Bouh after he touched the ball with his hand outside its surface.

The CR Belouizdad player cracked again in the stands when his teammate Aimen Mahious scored the winning and qualifying goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time (90+6).

Between the two moments of emotion, Algeria was afraid before reassuring itself little by little after the expulsion, severe, despite the VAR, of the Ivorian Kouassi Attohoula (34th).

However, she struggled in the game against Elephants who were able to resist the pressure of the stadium and the attacks of the Fennecs until this penalty caused by Abdoul Aziz Siahoune and signaled by the…VAR.

Algeria will meet in the semi-final, Tuesday January 31, the winner of the quarter-final Niger-Ghana which is played Saturday January 28.
