It is a terrible disappointment felt by a young English couple, reports
The Sun
on Monday.
The story dates from February 2021, but it is only reported today by the British press.
A 19-year-old woman and her 21-year-old partner, both living in North London (England), thought they had won the jackpot… before having the most brutal disillusionment.
For five weeks now, the couple had gotten into the habit of playing the same EuroMillions numbers all the time.
He signed up for a mobile app that automatically used their set of lucky numbers each week.
One fine day, the young woman received a message from the operator managing the lottery.
The latter told him incredible news: the couple had just won the sum of 182 million pounds sterling, or just over 205 million euros.
He was already dreaming of his future home
The English immediately called the given phone number to collect their winnings.
Unfortunately, the employee explained to them that the figures were indeed the correct ones… but that they had not been validated.
Indeed, the couple had forgotten to remit funds to the account of the mobile application: the value of 2.50 pounds sterling (about 2.90 euros) was therefore missing to buy the lottery ticket.
"I was totally heartbroken when we heard the man on the phone say we hadn't actually bought the ticket," the player told
The
Sun.
“I was already viewing our dream house and the dream car that went with it.
I think I went a little too fast, ”he concluded.
The lottery merely advised the couple to keep playing every week to try their luck, reports
The Mirror
.
What he intends to do… but out of the question to use the same series of figures at the origin of their misfortune.
