Two people were killed and five others injured in a knife attack on a regional train from Kiel to Hamburg on Wednesday.

The Interior Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Sabine Sütterlin-Waack, told the German Press Agency on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the federal police said that shortly before 3 p.m. before arriving at Brokstedt station, a man attacked travelers with a knife.

According to initial findings, seven people were injured.

Police officers arrested the man shortly afterwards in Brokstedt.

A spokeswoman for the responsible police in Itzehoe told AFP that the situation was still unclear.

No precise information was given on the condition of the injured or the background to the attack.

The station was closed for police measures.

As Deutsche Bahn announced on Twitter, there are long-distance train cancellations between Hamburg and Kiel and Neumünster.
