The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, Mohammed Al-Murr, affirmed that cultural tourism is an industry concerned with enlightening people about the history of civilizations and historical destinations in the countries of the world, pointing to the importance of shaping one’s artistic taste and cultural stock, starting with family and school education, as the family plays a role. It is vital in stimulating the child's curiosity to discover other cultures and civilizations, while the school contributes to nourishing him with the necessary information and knowledge.

Al-Murr reviewed - during a symposium titled "Cultural Tourism: The Cultural Content of Trips", organized by the Hanif Hassan Al-Qasim Cultural Council - some of his experiences and personal trips, and his perspective on cultural tourism in the Emirates.

He attributed the decline of cultural tourism in our Arab world compared to the global reality, to "the absence of cultural curiosity among our peoples, except for what is rare, as we have the motives to travel for work purposes or recreational and therapeutic tourism."

He added other reasons, "such as our lack of knowledge as Arab peoples about the cultures of our countries and the inherited treasures they bear, as well as the lack of sufficient investment in this sector, or considering it a rewarding and auxiliary industry for the economy."

Al-Murr noted «the expansion of the UAE in building the cultural infrastructure by investing in the so-called creative economy, the results of which can be seen in visions and strategies, and major events such as (Dubai Expo), libraries and book fairs, as well as museums, festivals and awards hosted by various emirates. The state, as for the next and hoped-for step, should pour into the manufacture of the cultural personality that is interested in these facilities and initiatives, in addition to promoting them as cultural products that deserve to be included in the schedule of every tourist to the land of the state.
