It is in this precise point of the village that the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran stayed between October 1978 and February 1979, when he was forced into exile by the Shah of Iran.

It was there, too, that he led his revolution from a distance in order to regain power.

“The name of Neauphle-le-Château is forever recorded in the history of Franco-Iranian relations,” says the sign.

But today, at a time when young people are being executed for protesting in Iran, some of the 3,500 inhabitants of Neauphle-le-Château are worried about this glorification.

“I would like Neauphle to no longer be associated with this part of history that was imposed on him because it was the government that gave the Ayatollah permission to stay here,” said the mayor (SE ) Elisabeth Sandjivy.

The municipal team would also be organizing to hide this panel which has become embarrassing in view of international news.

A procedure would also have been initiated with the owner of the land to remove the poster.
