THE PRESIDENT of the Valencian Community can simply dismiss the case of corruption uncovered within the PSPV-PSOE in the framework of the Azud operation and, therefore, must offer detailed explanations.

As we reported today on our pages, the name of Ximo Puig appears in the summary and, apparently,

also in the diaries of the former socialist treasurer José María Cataluña, who currently continues to be one of the main links between businessmen and the psoe val

oak tree

.

His papers are riddled with references to "Ximo" or "X.

Puig».

In addition, according to the UCO report, it is unknown who paid for the campaign material in which Puig aspired to the leadership of the Socialists in the 2008 primaries. Specifically, the production of T-shirts was commissioned by Cronosport, a of the firms that received payments from the companies in the plot.

Given these facts, it is not acceptable for Puig to try to completely disassociate himself from this framework.

The investigators, and this has been assumed by the Prosecutor's Office and the judge, consider the existence of irregular financing through the payment of electoral expenses by construction companies accredited.

This is how it appears in the bulk of piece 7 separated from the Azud case.

Following their own argument, the Socialists repeat two mantras: that the plot hatched around Azud affects the PP above all and that, in any case, it is a matter of the past, as if this allowed them to abdicate responsibilities.

However, the reality is that the suspicions extend to the present of the Valencian PSOE.

Consequently, due to a pure requirement of confidence in the institutions, months ago the president of the Valencian Generalitat should have offered explanations

.

The main unknown to be cleared up in this matter is to determine to what extent Puig was or was not aware of a plot that challenges his party in the Valencian Community.

Rafael Rubio, former socialist spokesman in the Valencia City Council, was arrested in 2021 as a sub-delegate of the Government for collecting bribes from the plot.

José Luis Vera, a lawyer linked to the PSOE, whom he has defended in corruption cases against the PP, would have collected 1.3 million euros from the network.

And José Asensi, whose family business participated -according to the Treasury- in the generation of 1.6 million for the plot, today is a socialist senator for Alicante.

It is not understood how, despite this accumulation of evidence, Puig refuses to acknowledge the involvement of high-ranking officials of the regional PSOE in the Azud case.

It is a fact supported by investigations that socialist politicians received money from the plot to achieve their favors or buy their silence.

Puig cannot continue to inhibit himself.

The imperative of transparency, which he himself waved as an electoral flag against the Valencian PP, demands the pertinent explanations

.

Silence and opacity are incompatible with institutional regeneration.
