In order to enrich the Seto Inland Sea, work was carried out in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, to scrape out the humus accumulated in reservoirs and flush it into rivers.

Hyogo Prefecture and Akashi City do this every year at this time, and on this day, work was done on 27 reservoirs in the city.

About 50 people, including local farmers and fishermen, gathered at Shimokawa Pond in Okubo-cho, Akashi City.

Participants entered the pond one after another with a 1-meter-long tool called joren, scraping out the humus that had accumulated at the bottom and stirring it in the water.

Then, using a fire pump and hose, we repeated the work of flushing it into a nearby river.

The humus that accumulates at the bottom of the pond contains nitrogen and phosphorus, which are nutrients in the sea, and by discharging it into the Seto Inland Sea, it is expected that it will lead to the creation of a rich sea, such as preventing the discoloration of glue. about it.

Mr. Kazunori Kinoshita, who works to preserve the reservoir locally, says, "We are continuing our activities to make the sea richer by washing the nutrients accumulated at the bottom of the pond into the sea. It would be great if we could catch a lot of fish and octopus, a local specialty." I think," he said.
