China News Service, Jiaxing, January 22 (Zhang Yudi) At the beginning of the new year, in the Nuclear Power New Village Community, Haiyan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, Ma Lin, who is in his 70s, is taking the dried clothes back into the house on the balcony.

"The clothes were washed the night before, and because there is heating in the room, they can be collected after a day of drying, and they are very dry, without feeling cold and damp." Marin said.

In December 2021, the first nuclear energy heating project in southern China, the Zhejiang Haiyan Nuclear Energy Heating Demonstration Project (Phase I), was officially put into operation, bringing the warmth of nuclear energy to the first batch of nearly 10,000 residential users in Haiyan County.

Marin was one of the first residents to enjoy nuclear heating in the south.

34 years ago, Ma Lin was transferred from the power plant in Xi'an, Shaanxi to the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in Haiyan, Zhejiang. The nuclear power plant gathered "industrial people" from all corners of the country.

"At that time, Haiyan locals considered that our workers from the north could not adapt to the winter without heating, so they installed gas heating for our home." Marin said.

According to Marin's recollection, at that time, the gas was connected to the local life line, and when the peak cooking time came, the air pressure was not enough, and the heating temperature would suddenly drop from above 20°C to around 10°C, which was very unstable.

"Since last winter, the community has switched to nuclear energy heating, and the temperature at home can be kept at 20°C in winter. You don't need to wear too many clothes. You can sleep at night with a quilt that is slightly thicker than the air-conditioning quilt." Marin said.

Marin said frankly that many residents in the community also had concerns when they first heard that the heating source of the community would change from gas to nuclear power.

However, after in-depth understanding, they dispelled their concerns.

"Nuclear heating is not nuclear heating. There is only heat exchange and no medium exchange in the whole process." Marin explained that the heat extracted from the steam extraction of nuclear power units is only a heat source, and what users come into contact with is fully isolated through layers of safety. water.

For a long time in the past, heating has been standard equipment in the north, and it is also a benefit that the south cannot envy.

In Marin’s view, the reason why there is no central heating in the south is that the winter time in the south is short and the heating companies cannot recover the cost of investment; , unwilling to spend on it.

"At present, our heating fee is more than 3,000 yuan per winter. Although we have collected the money, we enjoy a comfortable winter." Marin said that elderly people like him will always have some "problems" in winter, such as Asthma, rheumatism, etc., and in a heated environment, such ailments will be much weaker.

In addition, in Marin's view, since the sea salt is close to the sea, the humidity is higher than that in the north, so there is no need to fill the heating room with water basins, and it is rare to encounter hands that are dry and cracked. The north is more livable.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, with the pattering winter rain outside the window, the Ma Lin family started a new year in the warm and spring-like room.

It is understood that Haiyan County strives to fully complete the nuclear energy heating demonstration project by 2030, with an estimated annual heat supply of 1.7 million gigajoules.

"In the next step, Haiyan will increase the supporting construction of urban pipe network infrastructure, explore the pipeline presets for new residential projects, focus on promoting the construction of nuclear energy heating in key institutions such as schools, hospitals, and elderly care institutions, and expand the coverage of nuclear energy heating for ordinary people. Net.” said Gu Qiuli, deputy secretary of the Haiyan County Party Committee and acting county magistrate.
