The City Council of Alcalá la Real has just presented at Fitur, the great annual tourism event, a trip to the past.

That's how it is.

A tourist experience that takes the visitor directly to the 16th century so that they can

relive through augmented reality

what the monumental complex of La Mota was like and the society of its time when this fortified city was erected.

As of this weekend, visitors who come to the complex, classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest, will discover that through a QR code they can access a whole virtual world that, in the words of Lola Priego, the person in charge of Tourism of Alcalá la Real, "adds a didactic field to this set".

With some 40,000 visitors a year, the fortress is the

most visited monument on the Route of Castles and Battles of Jaén

, partly because of its spectacular location, but also because it is very well preserved.

Along with the original urban fabric, numerous vestiges of life on the Frontier that characterized the history of this area until the disappearance of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada have come down to our days.

In addition to contemplating the walls, towers, parapets and treasures such as the Iglesia Mayor Abacial, the incorporation of 3D makes it possible for the visitor to see a very realistic image of what the corners that are no longer with the life they had in their day were like.

"It is not only a historical and archaeological recreation of what the castle was like in the 16th and 17th centuries, but also

a way of seeing the uses and customs,

and the characters that inhabited the fortress at that time," explains

Antonio Marino

, mayor of the town of Alcalá la Real.

This is because the 3D ride is the result of solid scientific and technically rigorous work.

On the one hand, it has served for the visual recovery of the architectural volumes, as well as the nearby environment and landscape.

But at the same time, it has inserted

various historical characters

with a double purpose: on the one hand, to give life and dynamism to the 3D scenes;

and on the other, being able to show users what the

clothes of the time were like.

In this way, in the

Albayzín

area , the neighborhood where the artisan workshops were, the user can see the shopkeepers in their shops and their trades just as they would be five centuries ago.

Other areas of the fortified city of Jaén that have been incorporated into 3D are the Entrepuertas area, Plaza Baja and Barrio Noble, as well as the Bahondillo neighborhood.

The augmented reality initiative is complemented by the

translation into three languages

of the interpretive contents of the Tower of Homage, and even in Braille.

In addition, the mayor of Alcalá la Real has announced that an itinerary for visitors with reduced mobility

will soon be incorporated .
