Led by the Norwegian group Smart Salmon, the project aims to build a 55,000 m² factory which should produce between 8,000 and 10,000 tonnes of salmon per year.

But on the spot, the opposition to this giant breeding does not weaken.

On December 10, a thousand people marched through the streets of Guingamp against the project.

The criticisms relate in particular to the consequences on the water resource, the elected officials worrying about the discharges of this factory which will consume 600 m³ per day.

During the municipal council, Mayor Rémy Guillou also pointed out the location “which is not well chosen” as well as the process of salting the water and then desalting which “consumes a lot of electricity.

Arguments also taken up by Eau et Rivières de Bretagne.

"The very severe drought this fall, the worsening energy supply problems, the need to reduce land consumption, cast considerable doubt on the economic, social and environmental interest of hosting such a project", denounces association.

After those of Plouisy, the elected officials of Guingamp-Paimpol Agglomeration, who had given their agreement to the process of selling the land in July 2021, will also have to decide on the salmon factory project on February 2.
