Mexico.. Finding a mass grave for the victims of drug gangs

Mexican police found more than 20 bags of human remains under a layer of cement that appeared to be a cemetery for victims of drug cartels, when they raided a suspicious warehouse based on the investigation of the leader of a criminal cell.

The police had arrested nine alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), including Jose Luis, alias "El Pozolero".

Jose Luis has been accused since August 2022 of kidnapping and mutilation as the leader of a criminal cell.

The investigation of this man revealed an alleged link to murders committed in the Toluca Valley and the southern region of the State of Mexico, and an agent from the Public Prosecutor's Office requested search warrants for properties where criminal activities took place.

At the depot in Tenango del Valle, police used machinery to break up the cement that hides the earthen floor where the human remains were discovered.

The Mexico State Attorney General's Office of Justice said the murder victims may have been killed in Toluca, another town in Idomex.

At the moment, the judicial authorities have not been able to determine the gender or ages of the victims, and there is no accurate final data on their number, but "corresponding forensic operations are continuing," said the statement. Marijuana wrappers were also found at the place of residence.
