The municipal police of Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis) have been equipped with pedestrian cameras since Monday.

This is a campaign promise from UDI Mayor Karine Franclet who wants to "strengthen security" in the city.

It has thus increased the number of video surveillance cameras, doubled the number of agents and inaugurated a new urban surveillance center, reports Actu Seine-Saint-Denis.

The city councilor spoke on Twitter of a device protecting both the police and citizens.

Twelve pedestrian cameras worn on the chest were authorized in Aubervilliers by a prefectural decree.

They equip at least one agent per crew.

In addition to preventing incidents, the devices can assist in finding offenses and prosecuting perpetrators, according to the city.

They will also facilitate training and education within the municipal police.

These 130g cameras are manually activated.

They can transmit the images, dates and locations live to the command post.

The police are required to warn their interlocutors when they start it.

The Global Security Act also obliges its use to be reserved for situations where security is threatened.
