An incident of assault on a teacher angered the pioneers of communication platforms in Algeria, as a child in the fourth grade of primary school stabbed the Arabic language teacher in the back in the school yard, and then fled.

The details of the incident took place - as stated in the "Shabakat" program (16/1/2023) - in a school in the state of Batna, and its victim was the teacher, Rihana Ben Shayeh, whose fault was that she summoned the child's guardian to inform him of his behavior.

After the attack, the teacher was taken to the hospital, and the medical staff managed, after an hours-long surgery, to save her life and remove the dagger.

In the hospital, she was visited by the governor of Batna, the Minister of National Education and the Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women's Issues.

It is noteworthy that the Algerian authorities put a helicopter at the disposal of the medical team, to transfer the professor to a hospital in Constantine or the capital, if he deems it necessary, but they did not need to use it because the surgical work and the skill of the doctors were enough to save her life.

Professor's dignity

The Algerians expressed their anger at the teacher being stabbed, and their sympathy for her, as the activist Samara wrote: "The professor's dignity is being wasted in the most egregious way...violence, sacrilege and threats, and what happened to the teacher is a result of the intended disregard for the suffering of the teachers."

Activist Sharif asked, "Why does the professor say that a report about a chaotic student includes knowledge, and there are students who must be separated from the educational environment and directed to the professional environment?"

As for Joilo Muhammad, she said: "Before we call for action, we must know precisely the reason that prompted this child to commit this crime! There are misdemeanors and felonies against students that no one hears about, such as insulting, beating and mocking him."

For his part, Kamel bin Zarour commented: "The strict law and without any mercy with the perpetrator of this crime, to serve as an example for those who do not want to be considered and for those who are considered ... the law is the determinant."

And an account in the name of educational affairs in Algeria tweeted, saying: "There is no doubt that the right of Professor Rehana, who expresses a sample of the repeated attacks against education workers, will not be lost ... and that the Algerian state, with responsibility, will work to preserve the dignity and life of the educator."

In an official statement, the Public Prosecutor at the Naqous Court of the Batna State Judicial Council said in a statement: “An introductory request has been issued to the investigating judge in charge of juveniles of the Naqous Court for the felony of attempted premeditated murder, and he has issued an order to place the accused in temporary detention.” in the juvenile ward, and the judicial investigation is still continuing into the facts to reveal all the circumstances of the case.”
