A magnitude 6 earthquake was detected Monday morning off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, Indonesia.

According to the American Seismological Institute USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake is located about 48 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Singkil, in the Indonesian province of Aceh, at a depth of 48 kilometers.

No casualties or significant damage were reported immediately.

The tremor occurred around 6:30 a.m. local time (2330 GMT Sunday).

The quake was "felt in Medan", about 120 kilometers north-northeast of the epicenter, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) assigned the quake a magnitude greater than 6.2.
