Since 1985, the Quantangzi Agricultural Technology Station in Xiangtan, Hunan has been the pilot demonstration base of hybrid rice for Academician Yuan Longping. A total of 192 new combinations of hybrid rice have been introduced, which has increased farmers' income by hundreds of millions of yuan.
As the head of the Quantangzi Agricultural Technology Station and the person in charge of the Quantangzi Pilot Demonstration Base of the National Hybrid Rice Engineering Technology Research Center, Li Luobin, an 80-year-old national model worker, will leave his post after the Spring Festival and is on his last post.
Li Luobin has been developing and cultivating selenium-enriched hybrid rice since 2013.
After repeated trial planting, 4 series of varieties were finally determined from 77 high-quality rice varieties, and "Zhongxiang Youlijing" high-selenium functional rice was developed by planting ratooning rice.
As the influence continues to increase, its planting area has expanded from dozens of acres of experimental fields to more than 1,000 acres.
Selenium-enriched rice can not only make people eat healthy, but also allow farmers to grow wealth.
Li Luobin, who is also a teacher and friend with Yuan Longping and is about to retire, said that in 2022, it is his main work goal to ensure the quality of high-selenium functional rice and cultivate reserve forces to continue to do it, and it is also to realize the entrustment of Academician Yuan Longping: Let the common people eat healthily and live longer.
