Villa Vettii is one of the most spectacular houses in Pompeii and has been closed to the public for 20 years.

It is one of the few houses where it has actually been identified who owned the house - two freed slaves who became rich from the wine trade.

Several of the walls are covered with frescoes and give a good picture of the development of art in Pompeii.

Among other things, around the house's large atrium there are twelve scenes with motifs from Greek mythology.

The most famous painting is of the fertility god Priapus, who is often depicted with an erect penis.

So also in Villa Vetti where he weighs his well-measured assets.

The villa was rededicated by Italian Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano, who emphasized Pompeii's value both in archaeological and historical terms.

- Pompeii is unique.

The place also has economic potential and I have often pointed out that Italy is a cultural superpower, he says.
