Young artist Sonam Tsering’s first Shanghai solo exhibition "Rainbow" opened at Daigo Art Space on the 13th.   Sonam Tsering was born in Shigatse, Tibet in 1989. After graduating from the Art Department of Tibet University, he came to work in Yadong, Shigatse.

Yadong is located on the Sino-Indian border in southern Tibet, away from the hustle and bustle. It not only witnessed the modern changes in Tibet, but also fully preserved the essence of traditional culture. The vast virgin forest and natural scenery endowed the creator with inspiration and passion.

Sonam Tsering is a civil servant during the day, making great efforts for the development of Yadong, and at night, he perseveres in creating, expressing his personal feelings about the changing and developing Yadong.

  The work "Shambhala" at the entrance of the exhibition is a sphere with a diameter of one meter, which is quite eye-catching.

Sonam Tsering creatively transformed thangka techniques into contemporary times, borrowing the form of a globe to draw the heaven and earth in the hearts of young Tibetans.

After the Amazon rainforest fire in 2019, he used this method to create the work "Lonely Rainforest", which also won the award of the Climate Action Art Competition initiated by WWF.

  Sonam Tsering continues to explore the expression of Thangka art in different media.

Using local handmade cashmere cloth as the surface and foreign colored wool thread as the language, he presents the iconic "Rainbow Buddha" series of works, and further extends the gorgeous images such as "Auspicious Eight Treasures", expressing the continuous development of Yadong in the era of globalization, and The situation of advancing with the times.

  One of the organizers of this exhibition and the person in charge of the Yadong Liaison Group of the tenth batch of Shanghai-Tibet aid cadres told reporters that Yadong has made great progress in stability, development, ecology, and strengthening the border in recent years.

Sonam Tsering drew nourishment from the natural scenery of the plateau and the colorful life of Yadong in the new era to create fascinating works.
