[Explanation] From January 11, the first cold wave in 2023 will strike.

Chen Tao, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said that from January 11 to 15, strong cold air will affect most parts of China. At present, the front of cold air is located in the eastern part of Northwest China to Inner Mongolia.

From January 11 to 15, except for some areas on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, most parts of the country will experience a drop in temperature of 8°C to 12°C.

At present, the front of the cold air is located in the eastern part of Northwest China to Inner Mongolia. In the next three days, the cold air will further move eastward and southward, affecting most of the central and eastern regions.

[Explanation] Chen Tao said that this round of cold wave has dropped drastically in many places, and the cooling time varies from place to place.

[Concurrent] Chen Tao, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory

The strongest areas where the temperature drop is relatively obvious are mainly in northern Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Northeast China, and some areas from Guizhou to Jiangnan. The temperature drop generally exceeds 14°C, 18°C in some areas, and may exceed 20°C locally. ℃.

The main cooling time varies from region to region. For example, the main cooling time period in Northwest China, North China, and Northeast China is January 13, and the cooling time period in Jiangnan and South China is mainly from January 14 to 15.

[Explanation] Why is this round of cold wave cooling so violently?

Chen Tao gave the answer.

[Concurrent] Chen Tao, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory

The first point is that the current cold air force moving south from the middle and high latitudes (regions) is relatively strong, and the cold high pressure force is very strong.

The second point is that since the beginning of January, most parts of the country have been warming up. In the past two days, the temperature in North China and Northeast China has been quite obvious. The temperature in these areas is significantly higher than the same period of historical years. .

In the future, under the influence of cold air, the temperature drop will be more significant.

[Explanation] With the strength of the cold wave and the strengthening of warm and humid airflow, a round of large-scale rain and snow gradually spread.

Chen Tao introduced that there will be obvious rain and snow in North China today and tomorrow.

[Concurrent] Chen Tao, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory

From January 12th to 13th in the next two days, there will be relatively obvious rain and snow in North China. From the central and southern parts of North China to the central and eastern parts of Jiangnan, from January 13th to 15th, there will be a process of rain turning into snow. .

We expect that the areas with relatively heavy snowfall will mainly appear in Shanxi, Henan, and southern Shaanxi, and then to the northern part of the Sichuan Basin. There will generally be moderate to heavy snowfall, and there may be some local blizzards.

[Explanation] Right now it is the Spring Festival travel season. Chen Tao said that the rainy and snowy weather will gradually weaken after January 15th, and it is not expected that there will be persistent low-temperature rainy, snowy and freezing weather.

[Concurrent] Chen Tao, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory

In the next three days from January 12th to 14th, the rainy and snowy weather in the central and eastern regions will be relatively vigorous, and this time period will be at the peak of the Spring Festival travel season.

However, we predict that after January 15, the rainy and snowy weather will weaken significantly, and the weather in the central and eastern regions will gradually turn from cloudy to sunny, and the temperature will rise to a certain extent. The probability of such a weather process of continuous rain, snow and freezing in the south should be relatively small.

It is the Spring Festival travel season, and the public may need to pay attention to the latest forecast and early warning of strong winds and cooling, rain and snow, and arrange travel plans reasonably according to the weather warning.
