The proposal means that restaurants and nightclubs, among other things, no longer require approval from the Police Authority to organize a dance performance, if these are not located in a public place, the government writes in the press release.

Dance events in a public place, for example a square, must be reported to the Police Authority, but the report must be made free of charge and verbally.

- The proposed application procedure will mean a simplification for the companies concerned at the same time as the spontaneous dance falls outside the notification obligation, says Minister of Energy and Business Ebba Busch (KD) in the press release.

Has been in demand for 20 years

For the past 20 years, members from all parties except the Social Democrats have moved to abolish it.

Over 60 motions have been received since 2004.

In April 2016, the Riksdag announced that it wanted the dance permit to be removed and called on the government to investigate the matter.

The matter was investigated and in 2018 the inquiry concluded that the permit served an important safety function in some cases and should not be removed entirely, but perhaps changed.

The government's proposal is now to be referred to the Legislative Council and the amendment to the law is proposed to enter into force on 1 July 2023.
