Thousands of dead sardines washed up on the sand.

This is the strange sight that onlookers discovered on Tuesday morning while strolling on the Pentrez beach which stretches for several kilometers in the bay of Douarnenez (Finistère), reports

The reasons for this massive stranding are currently unknown.

Specialists went there during the day to carry out observations.

One of the hypotheses would be a fishing incident with a trawler which would have offloaded its cargo.

But the most likely track is that of a natural phenomenon linked to the storms that have followed one another in recent days on the tip of Brittany.

Close to the coast, the fish could thus have been caught in the waves before running aground on the beach.

While waiting for the next tides, the authorities strongly advise walkers not to collect sardines, the daily specifies.
