Vetenskap og Folkbildning has appointed people's educator of the year and misleader of the year since 1987.

Sabaton is particularly noted for their latest album "The War to End All Wars" which was released in 2022.

There, the First World War is depicted from various aspects – from the horrors of soldiers on muddy battlefields to the grand political game behind the scenes, writes Vetenskap och Folkbildning.

"Thus, for many years, the band has made people interested in history and better understand history as a science in a way that no one usually expects from musical artists."

Kicked out of EU playlist

Sabaton's song "Carolus Rex", whose title refers to Karl XII, was included in the Spotify list that the government released in connection with Sweden taking over the presidency of the EU.

But just days later, the song was removed.

The reason was that the government was alerted to the band's controversial gig on the Crimean peninsula in 2015. The concert was organized by the Russian motorcycle gang the Night Wolves, who had connections to President Vladimir Putin.

"This is not something we want to be associated with the Swedish presidency," wrote the press service for the Swedish EU presidency in an email to Dagens Nyheter.

The evening papers this year's mislead

The less desirable misleader of the year award goes to the person who "in Sweden during the year, voluntarily or through gross negligence, contributed to creating confusion and uncertainty about the methods and results of science."

This year, Aftonbladet and Expressen will share the "prize".

"They receive the award for health articles about the thyroid gland in particular and especially hypothyroidism (underfunctioning of the thyroid gland) where case histories of individual patients are compared to the assessments of medical experts," writes Vetenskap och Folkbildning in the justification.
