Exactly 25 years after its entry into force, the Vitale card will soon be available in a digital version accessible via your smartphone.

Tested since 2019 in several departments, this Vitale e-card will be generalized to the whole territory from April 2023.

An app and a QR code

Concretely, this dematerialized version of the Vitale card can be obtained by policyholders by downloading an application on their smartphone, "apCV", reports

La Nouvelle République

.

At the doctor, it will then suffice to scan the QR code of the application, or to go through NFC technology, for smartphones which have this functionality.

As detailed by Health Insurance, "apCV" will also contain "user data, the national health identifier and data for monitoring the use of the card".

Clearly, the application will also allow you to follow your care expenses.

Other functionalities are also added after the launch of the application, such as the possibility of delegating the use of your card to a trusted third party or even of identifying yourself with other digital health services.

Towards a removal of the physical card?

The generalization of this dematerialized Vitale card is part of the government's desire to develop the digitization of health.

For the Vitale card, digitization would constitute in the eyes of the Health Insurance “the guarantee of always being able to make a teletransmission” since patients are more likely to have their smartphone than their card.

This digitization also aims to minimize “errors and rejections of invoices” and to reduce the “risks of manual contamination”.

With this novelty, the Health Insurance wants to be reassuring.

According to his analysis, the application would have “the same level of security as the physical card” and the data contained in it would not alone allow falsification.

In addition, to access the application, users will have to undergo double authentication.

While this system should be maintained until 2026, the physical Vitale card should not be removed before this date.
