• A beautiful young girl must contend between reality and prophecy in a village at the beginning of the 20th century.

  • Juliette Jouan, a remarkable beginner, lives in "L'Envol" by Petro Marcello.

  • Actress and singer, the young woman impresses with her naturalness.

What talent !

Juliette Jouan, 20, is the discovery of

L'Envol

by Pietro Marcello.

This young girl from Caen made her screen debut between Louis Garrel and Noémie Lvovsky in a tale discovered at Cannes during the Directors' Fortnight, which sometimes takes the form of a musical.

"I had a video casting thanks to my father who found that the description of the ad suited me and it worked", confides the actress to

.

Juliette Jouan is far too modest.

She radiates the film with such a presence that we immediately understand why the director of

Martin Eden

singled it out.

Music and cinema are his passions

“I immediately felt in tune with this story,” explains Juliette Jouan.

Her character, freely inspired by a book by Aleksandr Grin, is full of life in the difficult environment of a village that she dreams of leaving despite the tenderness of her father, a veteran of the First World War.

“We assumed that the character was me, she confides, but she is tougher than me in her life and her family.

»

The heroine must impose herself when her beauty makes her the target of stalkers but she lights up as soon as she pushes the song.

“I worked a lot with composer Gabriel Yared who drew on my background as a pianist to help me feel comfortable,” she says.

Whether she lets herself be enchanted by the prophecy of an enchantress (Yolande Moreau as

a mischievous old lady) or is flirted with by an aviator camped by Louis Garrel, the beginner is astonishingly natural.

The taste of cinema

"It was crazy to play with actresses and actors that I used to see on screen" recognizes Juliette Jouan who made the most of the improvisation technique favored by the director.

“Sometimes we worked on a scene for four hours,” she recalls.

Today, the young woman continues to compose songs.

She doesn't have any acting plans yet, but she's ready to get back in front of the camera as soon as possible.

"Cinema is great and I got a taste for it," she enthuses.

As it would seem that this passion can be reciprocal, we hope Juliette Jouan has a good career.
