The CEO of the Grenoble Mutual Hospital Group (GHM), an important establishment in the metropolis, was placed in police custody on Monday in Paris, where he was arrested.

He is suspected of illegal taking of interest and embezzlement of public funds, the Grenoble prosecutor's office announced on Monday.

Bernard Bensaïd must be "brought back to Grenoble" during the day to be heard on this subject, adds the prosecution, which will communicate more at the end of police custody.

This investigation follows a complaint filed in June by the FO and CGT unions of the hospital group, which denounced the agreements made between the GHM and the private group Avec (formerly Doctgestio) which had just taken it over.

A demonstration of employees is scheduled for Monday morning in front of the establishment, to "denounce a new loan of 2.7 million euros which will be allocated by the GHM to the commercial group Avec", said the FO union in a press release.

“Catastrophic financial situation”

"This new loan will bring the loans" to Avec since 2022 to 10.7 million euros, and "to date, only 1.5 million has been repaid", says FO, for whom Avec "is in a catastrophic financial situation. and “risk of dragging down” the GHM.

The latter, which includes two clinics and a cancer institute, was taken over in October 2020 by the private group Doctegestio.

It then had 1,000 employees, 280 doctors and 400 beds and had treated 35,000 emergency visits in 2019.

Announced in September 2019, this sale raised opposition from employees and users gathered as a collective.

They had set up a cooperative project rejected by the finalist buyers.

They had also called on local authorities to assert their right of pre-emption of the walls to prevent the transaction.

In January 2021, the metropolis of Grenoble had thus announced the preemption of the buildings to oppose the takeover by Doctegestio, already effective.
