New success for James Cameron in French cinemas.

His last film,

Avatar: the way of the water

,

can hope to exceed the entries of the first part released in 2009, even if it still remains far behind

Titanic

.

The film released on December 14 has indeed exceeded 10 million admissions, and 1.7 billion dollars at the global box office, its distributor announced in a press release on Monday.

Avatar: The Way of the Water

has garnered precisely 10,102,350 admissions in less than four weeks in France, surpassing the new version of The

Lion King

, the last blockbuster to have sold more than ten million tickets.

Two-thirds of viewers saw the film in 3D, a technology for which it was specially shot.

Performances are unprecedented since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Globally,

Avatar 2

is now the seventh biggest hit of all time, according to its distributor: France is the third country where the science fiction film has the most success, behind the United States and China, but ahead of Germany and South Korea.
