Shortly after 8:00 a.m. on the 6th, a 10-car inbound train bound for Shinagawa and a light passenger car collided at a railroad crossing on the JR Joban Line in Obara, Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture.



The car was dragged over 300 meters from the railroad crossing, and two people were rescued from the driver's seat and the back seat, but both were confirmed dead.



A subsequent police investigation confirmed that the deceased were Terumi Takayasu, 50, a part-time employee living nearby, and her son Noritoshi, 12, a sixth-grade elementary school student.



The train driver is said to have said, ``Just before approaching the railroad crossing, a car entered the track from the right side of the direction of travel.''



The railroad crossing where the accident occurred has an alarm and a barrier, and the police are investigating the situation at the time.
