started running all the time

After graduating from college, he quit his job and prepared for a year to pass the Chinese airline flight attendant exam.

Of the 200 people who passed the exam together, 199 got their visas with a little time lag, but only this person did not get a work visa.

I thought I might have to wait a bit, but the visa didn't come out until a year after I was notified of the acceptance.

No matter how much I protested and asked why, there was no explanation and only the word to wait came back.

Disappointment led to absurdity, and absurdity led to frustration, and I spent several months in tears.

Her mother said that if she really wanted to go to China, she would do a good job for her.

When she thought of her mother sitting at the gut, she didn't want to go that far.

As she recounted this passage, she wept.

Her tears dripped down her chin.

It is still difficult to look back at the frustration and pain of that time without tears.

When there was nothing I could do, I started running unconditionally.

Feeling embarrassed to be crying alone in an apartment complex on weekdays, I started running.

After running, my breathing was miraculously clear.

It felt like my chest was exploding, I felt alive, and I was able to sleep deeply.

It ran the next day too.

Running time increased from 5 minutes to 10 minutes, from 10 minutes to 20 minutes, to an hour.

I started talking to my family, who I was living with, and my expression brightened little by little.

I was so happy when I ran.

When I was at work, when I came home from work, my face looked so dark and tired that my family couldn't even talk to me, but after I started running, it brightened and I became more talkative.

Parents acknowledged that their daughter has changed through running and did not hold back their support, saying, "If you are really happy, do something happy."

The first time I ran a lap around an apartment complex was in April 2016, and six months after that, I completed the full marathon course.

I didn't train enough, so I came to the finish line 'almost crawled after 30km', but the sense of accomplishment was incomparable to anything.

I started my day by running every morning, and on weekends, I participated in various running competitions held across the country.

He regularly posts pictures of himself running on Instagram.

He called himself a 'running evangelist' and people naturally began to acknowledge his words.

- You started to become famous in 2017, but you never thought you would become famous for running, right?

“I didn’t know. The timing seems to have been very good. Even when I started running, there was no running boom yet, and I think it was the time when famous people were born. I think I got off to a good start a bit early when I was able to stand out."

Running changed everything

Until the London Marathon in October last year, he had completed 12 full marathon courses and three 100km ultramarathons.

He also completed the Gobi Desert Marathon, a 250 km long Mongolian highland wilderness in one week.

He also ran for 37 hours on the 160km Dulle-gil in Seoul.

He has also experienced two triathlons in which he swims 1.5km, cycles 40km, and runs 10km.

At first, he participated in overseas marathons with his own money, but as his name became known, companies that would sponsor him are lined up.

He completed all of the world's six major marathons—New York, Berlin, London, Chicago, Tokyo, and Boston—out of which he participated in three marathons, including the Berlin marathon, at his own expense, but the other three, including London, were sponsored by companies or travel agencies.

There was a time when even 30,000 won or 50,000 won for running competitions was a waste, but now, in exchange for participating in and promoting running events, people often receive millions of won.

- Now, if CEO Ahn goes to a competition, there must be a line of companies that will sponsor him.

"Yes. There are many brands that want to sponsor. Besides me, there are so many brands that want to sponsor <Top Girls Crew>* now."

*Women's running event planned by CEO

Ahn Jung-eun - Are there really that many?

"There are many. Cosmetics are lined up because I signed a contract for a term, and there are clothes as well as cosmetics. There are things to drink, things to eat, diet products, and women-related products. There are so many."

In 2018, he set up a running agency called Launderpool, published four books, including <I Run on the Beach in Mauritius Today>, and became a famous instructor in the field of running and coaching services.

Following Suwon, he recently opened a bakery shop in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.

It is a place where you can eat bread and learn about running.

He has more than 87,000 followers on Instagram, and his lectures are almost always full.

I gave more than 20 lectures last month alone.

He is married to his husband, whom he met through a running relationship, and will become a mother this year.

From her job to her husband, his running changed everything about her.

Now, he is a celebrity worthy of being called a celebrity, and the jobs he has gone through look plausible on the outside, but in reality, they are a series of tears, frustration and pain.

His first job after graduating from college ended in six months, and he prepared for over a year to finally pass the Chinese airline flight attendant exam.

He worked in a hotel marketing team affiliated with a large company, but it was a non-regular position with an actual salary of around 1.3 million won a month.

She wanted to be a theater actress since college and went on to the theater stage in Daehangno, but she couldn't get out of her life as an unknown actress.

In addition to that, she has done a few more jobs and has nearly ten licenses, but the fact that she has many licenses and has a variety of occupations has meant that she did not have a proper job.

There must have been more failures and frustrations this person didn't talk about, so her self-esteem was hitting the floor before she started running.

never gave up halfway through

When I was in school, I was ranked first in my class in running, and when I was selected as a relay player, I practiced for a week.

However, he had never been offered to be a runner by anyone, and he did not regard running as a hobby or specialty.

After he had fun with running, he practiced steadily by himself.

In winter, I climbed a mountain in preparation for trail running, and I deliberately carried a heavy bag or ran with a sandbag.

Although he gets the information he needs to run on the Internet, he doesn't have any systematic training.

He has a record of 44 minutes for 10 km and a full marathon course in 4 hours, but now he runs 'with a margin' in about 4 hours and 30 minutes.

- There must have been times when you gave up while running.

“But never.”

- Please.

"Of course, there are a lot of enemies who came last. But actually, I did finish the triathlon twice."

- It seems like there was a cutoff in triathlon.

"That's right. So, I finished it twice, but actually, it wasn't a normal finish both times. The first time I got cut off while riding a bike. But he said that if I run and finish to the end, I can get a medal. I returned it and entered the competition. So, of course, there is no record. Even when I did the second triathlon, I thought I had done a little swimming practice and came in within the prescribed time, but when I looked at the record later, that was also the cut-off. So, even then, I won a medal I received a , but I didn’t finish the race properly, so I have to try again.”

He said running was good, but it was still hard.

I want to give up more than 100 times when I run 100 km and 40 times when I run 42.195 km.

Sometimes, even when running only 100 meters, he said he would find a reason to give up halfway through.

Still, he said he resists the temptation to give up by thinking of the people and family waiting for him at the finish line.

It is true that it is difficult to give up now that many people recognize me when I go to a running competition, but when it is difficult, I think of myself as a national representative and run.

"If I run thinking 'I am a national representative', I would not be able to give up even if I wanted to give up. I am not just a runner, I have a Taegeuk mark on my left chest, and all the people and people around the world are cheering when they see me. When I saw them and thought that they were cheering for me, I couldn’t give up because of the responsibility of being a real national team member.”

- It must be especially true when you go to a foreign country and run.

“In Korea, I run thinking like that.”

- You've never been selected as a national representative, have you?

"No. No. That's how you set your mind. It's like setting your mindset."

In July 2019, while running in the Gobi Desert, if you look at the video, you can see that the feet are severely lame with taping so that there is no visible part of the flesh on both feet.

In addition, one of the sneakers was damaged by fire at the accommodation, so there was no cushioning function and the left and right balance of his feet was unbalanced.

In this situation, the process of running 250km with a 12kg backpack was excruciating pain.

- In fact, if you run out of stamina and are physically sick, you can't run.

If it's too hard and painful, don't you think you have to run?

"That's right. Almost at the end, when I had a day or two left, I kept crying and walking. I cried and walked really hard, but there was a Korean man who ran with me at that time. I could have finished the race thanks to running together. If I had run alone, I could have just sat down and cried, or I could have stopped the race in a convoy following behind me.”

I couldn't run for almost six months due to the aftereffects of completing my first marathon full course, and suffered for a while from an injury sustained in the Gobi Desert Marathon.

In 2020, when his popularity was soaring, he was hit hard by Corona 19.

Most of the incoming calls were notifications of cancellation of lectures or events, so for a while, just ringing the phone caused a stir, and for several months, income was zero.

Planned events were canceled one after another, and the wedding, which was scheduled for March 2020, had to be postponed.

As he gained weight because he couldn't exercise properly, he suffered from depression and social avoidance, and he even got shingles due to extreme stress.

Still, he didn't stop running.

At her wedding in June 2020, she ran the so-called virgin run along the Han River with her groom wearing her veil.

The money he collected was donated to African water sanitation support projects.

Don't compare yourself to others, compare yourself to yesterday's self

In May 2020, when Corona started to rampage, I planned <top girls crew> (top girls crew) running wearing only a bra top.

Overseas, women run freely wearing only bra tops, so I started with the idea that there is a law against doing so in Korea.

This plan to enjoy the freedom of what I like and what I feel comfortable wearing and not to care about other people's gazes was a great success.

In less than a minute after she received the application, 33 seats were filled.

“If you look abroad, no matter how fat you are, you just wear sportswear and exercise in a cool way. But in Korea, I still care about other people’s eyes, so it seems that I wear clothes that don’t harm others rather than the clothes I want to wear. When I just started running, I thought what if people thought I was running strangely or if people laughed at the sportswear I was wearing right now. Let's make a 'crew'..."

I was worried that if 33 women ran in a group wearing bra tops, which were considered underwear, they would get glare, but the reaction was unexpected.

"I posted this on Instagram to see the reaction. But there were a lot of comments from women. 'I want to try it too, I wanted to do it before I die. It's difficult if I'm alone, but I think it's possible if we try it together', so I gathered courage there. I got it and started right away... Since we were all running together wearing only sports bra tops, the elderly people sitting in the park said they were so cool, where did they come from

? Top Girls Crew> recruits 33 people at a time, three riders a year.

Six riders have been released so far, and a seventh rider is scheduled to be recruited this spring.

The number 33 came from the 33 national representatives of the 3.1 Movement.

At the first meeting of each jockey, they take an oath that says "I don't compare myself with others, I compare myself with yesterday's me" and "I run with the mindset that my belly fat is the prettiest no matter how much belly fat comes out."

He said he had no interest in or knowledge of things like feminism, but when he said such things, he was at the forefront of the women's movement.

- After hearing the story, I wondered if there were any discrimination or restrictions that women feel even when running, but...

"Rather than restrictions or discrimination, it's the first time that everyone wears clothes and runs, but only wears a bra top. But most of them said the same thing, 'I didn't know it was so cool to run with the wind blowing on my bare body like this, it's so free.' So it's not that I couldn't do it because I was tied to something, I just felt the wind for the first time in my life. I think that kind of deviant feeling makes me feel better, stronger and more confident, and laughing throughout the run."

This person's charm is confirmed by eyes and verified by life.

I am often asked if you are young and cool, can you show off your body and run?

He said he knows that the attractiveness of a young body attracts people's attention, but he wanted to show that the attractiveness of running goes beyond that.

"Of course, when you get older, you may not be able to run for a long time as you do now. But I'm pregnant and I want to show you more of me running with a protruding belly, and even after having a baby, I'm pulling a stroller or carrying a baby on my back. I want to show more of running while doing it. I want to show that running is not just for people in their 20s and 30s, that anyone can easily do it even after getting married, even with a protruding belly, even while raising a child. I also want to give birth to many."

Words springing up inside me when I run

When I was in school, Korean was not a very interesting subject, and the Korean language test score was 6th grade.

She neither liked nor was good at writing.

Still, he wanted to make a book of the stories that surged up inside him while running.

She also thought that she would be able to differentiate herself from others by writing a book.

She prepared a manuscript of nearly six hundred pages, taking notes and, if able to, recordings as well.

He sent the manuscript unconditionally to dozens of publishers, and several responded.

After publishing her first book in early 2019, I was so ashamed and embarrassed that I could not read her own book properly, and finally read it for the first time last fall.

He wrote it, but I thought he wrote it pretty well.

This is because the writing was written while running, not at a desk.

- Is it because you felt sincerity?

"It's embarrassing, but it's also true, and I thought, 'You must have thought of such a variety of things with one theme of running.' In fact, now I'm doing running as a job, but I really liked it back then, so I did it as a hobby to get healed, so my attachment and joy to running It seems there is more to this book."

- When I was writing the book, I thought I could make money and become famous by running.

"Yes. That's what I thought at the time. At that time, running became a bit of a boom, there were more running events, and more collaborations with companies, so I thought I could do something with running. So, one of the things I persuaded my parents was One is that I will release a book in my name within a year after I leave the company, and if a book comes out, I will start doing anything, whether it's giving a lecture or doing something with it. Since it's been 20 years, he said to do what you want to do. That's why I quit the company and published a book within a year."

When I couldn't do anything, I started a running-related event business, and when the number of people looking for me decreased in the Corona era, I made a breakthrough with the bakery business.

When he said that he would like to take up a third job by meeting difficulties again, I thought that this person was definitely an optimist.

It is true that he thought about how to grow his business by connecting running with marketing, and his desire for success grew, but his eyes on the world also deepened and widened.

I believe that where this road ends, a new road begins.

So you can say something like this.

"It can't always be fun all the time. There will be trials, there will be failures, and there will be a point of ruin. If that moment comes again, of course it would be better if it didn't come, but if that moment comes again Through something I meet then, I want to try my job once more with it.”

I learned and realized more while running than what I learned at school and read in books.

I learned from running that the person I run with is both a competitor and a colleague.

"Actually, it's easier to run 10km alone, but after 40km, 100km, and 200km, I absolutely couldn't finish the race alone. As I ran together, I learned more about the importance of the people around me. As a result, I became more aware of the value of the people around me. People are no longer objects of envy or jealousy, but I think it is more comfortable for me mentally because I have to be with them to be able to run farther.”

- There are a lot of running influencers.

Is there any competition among those people?

“In the beginning, I think I felt the competition. I wanted to run better, become more famous, and do more great things, but even though I tried not to think that way, people around me created a competition first. It was very burdensome and I was really stressed out I did, but these days, all of those people are walking in different fields, so there really isn't much overlap. Some people run a lot of overseas marathons, and some go to professional coaching. I don't think everyone feels that competitive or anything like that now."

A proud 'counsel'

He is a person who understands well which image of himself appeals to the public and how his image is consumed.

As a person who always thinks about how to express himself, he is sensitive to how he will appear to others.

He said that he paid attention to every word he said and every line he wrote, not to mention his running posture and facial expressions when running.

He called himself a coffin servant.

He used to get negative feelings from the word coffin bell, but the word coffin bell coming out of this person's mouth sounded like an expression of confidence.

"I think I was just an official. I am still an official. Well, everyone wants to be loved and everyone wants to be interested, and I think those things are the same."

He takes pictures of himself running, edits them himself, and uploads them on social media.

It can be said that this kind of appearance was created and created, and there are many other aspects of this person besides the ones posted on social media.

In fact, the follow-up event where you run while picking up trash, the event where you run through cultural sites in Gyeonggi-do including Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon, and the <Top Girls Crew> event where women wear bra tops run as a group are planned events and a kind of product.

Running 250km in the Gobi Desert and running a full marathon while holding the hand of a blind person are all efforts to promote and show oneself.

Words such as 'Korea's youngest runner in the world's top 6 marathon' smelled of planning, and the event where the groom and the groom ran wearing a veil on the day of the wedding was the pinnacle of such directing and planning.

However, this person's running image is not a processed one.

In running, there are far more invisible than visible, and it is a series of processes that are difficult to express through words, writing, and video.

No high-tech device can fully capture the pain, loneliness, and struggle of a runner.

This person's achievement may be thanks to 'directing' and 'planning', but the bottom is wet with the tears and sweat shed by this person.

It is not something that was obtained through flashy camera work or editing magic, but he is a person who has experienced much more than it seems.

- What does running mean to Ahn Jung-eun?

"I think running is comforting. When I run, I spend more time thinking about myself, chewing on myself, listening to my breathing alone, stepping forward as much as I want to move, and moving forward as much as I step back. I think I get a lot of comfort in my heart as I forgive the people I hated while thinking about the difficult things I did not know.”

I have been doing donations and good deeds for several years in connection with running events.

On Christmas day, all the families go to a child protection facility in Suwon to play with the children and deliver presents.

If there is a running competition for a good cause, he will gladly lend his name and run together.

He said that donations are for others but also for himself, and that while it is true that his image improves through donations, he feels good because he feels like he is becoming a better person.

- You do a lot of good things by running, and you must have a good heart, but on the other hand, wouldn't there be some things you do for image management?

"Actually, donations or good deeds are done for me. What I mean is, you know because I ran the 100km ultra marathon. The Gobi marathon is 250km. That's unimaginable. , I was afraid that I would be disqualified from the competition and come back to Korea, so I set up a device to donate to a child cancer patient. So I made a placard with the names of the people who helped me and put it in my backpack and ran. Whenever I had a really hard time, I took it out, and every day after the day's race, I held it and took a picture. Thanks to that, I was at home. I wanted to go, but I was able to persevere and finish the race.”

There are many people who run better than this person, people who run more, people who run better, and people who boast a stronger body.

However, what makes this person stand out is the power of the story.

A person who knows the power of a story and knows what a story is.

- Ahn Jung-eun, a running influencer, could have been born because of her excellent ability to create stories.

"I agree. Did you agree too easily? I am a marketer, so I know that stories are very important. Sometimes, when I go to university and give lectures related to marketing or virtuous work, one of the things I emphasize is that my story must be there unconditionally. A person without a story and a person with their own story are very different... For me, in a way, the story was marketed well."

- How much money do you earn from running?

“There are times when I earn a year’s salary in one month. But when that happens, I really run all night, day and weekdays without weekends. It hurt right away."

Running is now a job.

No matter how good a job is, doing it as a hobby is bound to be different from doing it as a hobby.

“To be honest, I will never be able to go back to the time when I first started running. I will have more thoughts and I will become more and more careful. I'm trying not to."

Enjoy your first running experience

He said he had something to say to those who decided to start running for the new year 2023.

These are the words of a 'running evangelist' who experienced a 'miracle' in which everything changes through running.

“Actually, I can’t say that your life will change dramatically just because you start running. But as each day starts to change little by little, a week changes, a month changes, and the people around you will change before you know it. I think I can tell you for sure."

- If you were to give advice to such people, what would you say?

"I'm telling you to enjoy the first experience unconditionally. When everyone starts at the beginning, they say, 'Oh yes, you have to run for 30 minutes or run for 5km, and you set really big goals.' Because the experience is too difficult, there is no second experience, so I would recommend that you enjoy the first experience, even if it is just 5 minutes or 1km. There are also."
