• An amendment proposes to take second homes into account in the calculation of the financial compensation for the new Loire-Atlantique wind farm paid to the municipalities.

  • The mayor of Saint-Nazaire, “angry”, fears that his allocation will drop by 20%.

In service since December, the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm, the first in France, continues to be talked about on land.

This time, it is the new distribution of the wind tax, this financial compensation paid for twenty-five years by the State to the surrounding municipalities because of the visual impact, which does not please everyone on the coast.

And in particular to the mayor of Saint-Nazaire, "angry", who fears that his subsidy will drop in favor of tourist seaside resorts like La Baule.

The new method of calculating this tax, voted by the National Assembly last December, now takes into account secondary residents, as requested by the mayors of several of these resorts.

Nearly 250,000 euros less

According to David Samzun (PS), the annual allocation of his city, which only hosts around 5%, should thus drop by around 20%, from 1,275,524 to 1,033,005 euros.

"I cannot get used to the idea that, in this country, in the midst of an energy crisis and faced with a huge housing crisis, wealthy owners of second homes facing the sea manage to install the idea that they would be harmed by the view of some wind turbines.

But concretely, harmed by what?, wonders the city councilor in a gallery.

Their daily life is in no way changed.

Their main concern is the possible devaluation of their heritage when they sell it to even more wealthy than them?

A new vote on the text must take place in the coming days.

"We hope for consistency and a boost," says David Samzun.
