In France, paternity leave (entered into force on January 1, 2002) has existed for twenty-one years.

Whereas since 1946, new fathers have only had three days off when their child is born, today they have 28 to participate in parental tasks after the birth.

But which countries use this advantage the most?

A podium trusted by Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia

As this infographic based on OECD data shows, Luxembourg leads the way: for every 100 live births, 95 dads took paternity leave there.

The Netherlands comes second with 91 leaves used, closely followed by Slovenia where 90 fathers (out of 100 live births) benefit from this right.

In France, 51 new fathers (per 100 live births) take advantage of this “paid rest” to welcome their baby and are in the middle of this comparison.

OUR “PATERNITY LEAVE” FILE

At the other end of the scale, in countries such as Austria and Hungary, fathers still have a lot of catching up to do since they total, respectively, 'only' 16 and 23 days of leave used.
