The Town Hall of Annemasse (Haute-Savoie) announced on Friday that it had taken the decision to force grocery stores that remain open late to close at 10 p.m.

A municipal decree has been issued to this effect.

It came into force on Sunday and applies to stores located in certain areas of the center of the town and selling drinks to take away, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

None of the targeted shops will be able to welcome customers between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The official text highlights the nuisances caused by the nocturnal marketing of alcohol.

He mentions in particular "excessive consumption", "the permanent presence of a group" near the stores in question, the noise, the "throwing of rubbish" and, in general, the "attack on tranquility and health".

The decree did not go down well with the managers of the businesses concerned.

Some felt that people hanging out in the streets would continue to do so even with shops closed.

Others claimed to have always ensured that their customers respect the calm of the neighborhood.
