A soldering pen, a piece of wood, accompanied by bursts of buzzing sound, the scorching iron walks on the board, and after the light blue smoke clears, a lifelike "Jade Rabbit" "jumps" onto the board...an ancient tradition The craftsmanship, after precipitation and collision in the hearts of Yang Xinping, an employee of the 164th Regiment of the Ninth Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (hereinafter referred to as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps), produced a series of color-coded pyrographs reflecting the stories of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

Yang Xinping, who has been engaged in pyrography for 31 years, did not expect that his color-coded pyrography was not only selected into the Xinjiang Corps-level "intangible cultural heritage" project, but his works also became new "Internet celebrities" in the tour exhibition of Xinjiang Corps divisions this year.

"Creating this "Jade Rabbit Welcomes the New Year" pyrography, I hope everyone will show off the 'rabbit', and the previous 'rabbit' is boundless." On December 31, 2022, Yang Xinping, the successor of the overcolor pyrography created in the exhibition hall of the group Say so.

Pyrography originated in the Warring States Period, flourished in the Eastern Han Dynasty, and has a history of more than 2,000 years.

It is a special type of painting created with red-hot iron bars on wooden boards, silk silk, rice paper, bamboo tubes, and bamboo mats.

55-year-old Yang Xinping has been fond of painting since he was a child. When he was living with his grandfather in his "hometown" Henan, he was fascinated by the flower and bird patterns drawn by folk artists on door faces and wardrobes with red-hot fire hooks.

Yang Xinping, who usually likes to copy the characters and scenery in the painting collection, tried to create pyrography in 1991.

During this period, he went to Henan and Shandong to learn skills, visited folk artists, and studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

The pyrography on the wooden board is "black and white world".

After years of experimentation, Yang Xinping formed the modern register pyrograph technique of "baking as the main part, supplemented by color, and baking to finalize the shape" on the basis of pyrography.

"At first, it was painted with gouache paint, but after the baked wood board was heated, the picture would be blurred and the color would be dull." Yang Xinping said, using mineral pigments and plant pigments for coloring, using a constant temperature electric pen to outline and spot dye, The picture is clearer, the gloss is good and does not change color.

"The wooden boards used for pyrography are particular, and basswood three-layer plywood is the best." Yang Xinping introduced that basswood is highly acidic and not easy to corrode, and the smell produced by baking is harmless, so pyrography can be stored for a longer period of time.

In Yang Xinping's view, overlay pyrograph not only has the techniques of sketching, drawing, pointing, dyeing, rubbing, and line drawing in Chinese painting, but also has the rigorous realistic effect of Western oil painting, which can produce rich layers and tones.

"Every process is important. Just like building a house, you have to draw the mold first, then bake it out, and then paint it. It doesn't matter if you can't do any process well."

The reporter noticed that there were many burn marks on Yang Xinping's hands, and his thumb seemed to be wider. Faced with doubts, he said frankly: "Without a little craftsmanship, how can I learn a skill?"

Living in the 164th Regiment on the border with Kazakhstan for many years, Yang Xinping's works present distinct regional characteristics.

The pyrography "Witness" of the story of the frontier post created by him used an old elm tree to witness the 70-year development of the Xinjiang Corps' residential buildings, and won the "Shanhua Award", the highest award in Chinese folk literature and art.

Over the years, a series of modern color pyrograph works reflecting the stories of the Xinjiang Corps, such as "Victory into Xinjiang", "The Spring of Diwozi", and "Remembering the Mission", have become a symbol of folk literature and art.

Nowadays, there is an endless stream of people looking for Yang Xinping to learn art.

"Whether it is for people who appreciate it, enrich their lives, or want to rely on it to increase their income, as long as they learn it sincerely, I will teach it. This is a kind of inheritance." Yang Xinping said with a smile.
