On the 31st of New Year's Eve, at the Meiji Jingu Shrine in Tokyo, a Shinto ritual called "Oharai" was held to cleanse the impurities of the past year and welcome the new year.

The "Oharai" that is held every year at Meiji Jingu Shrine in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, has been held since last year without the participation of general attendees due to the influence of the new coronavirus.

On the 31st, more than 25 Shinto priests attended, and first of all, they gave a Norito called "Oharae no Kotoba".

Then, I sprinkled finely cut paper and hemp on my body and tore the white cloth thinly with my hands to remove the dirt that had accumulated over the past year.

At Meiji Jingu, an all-night worship service will be held after this.

In addition, the first three days of the New Year are expected to be crowded, especially in the afternoon, so we are calling on those who plan to come to the New Year to spread out their prayers.
