The 35-year-old Briton has had a rocket career on social media, but he has also been kicked out of several platforms after making grossly offensive statements against women.

Among other things, he has claimed that women who have been abused bear their own responsibility and that women belong to men.

Now he himself has been arrested on suspicion of, among other things, rape and human trafficking after the police raided him and his brother.

The arrests took place in Andrew Tate's luxury villa in Romania.

He moved to the country five years ago, according to the BBC.

Carried away

Images show Andrew Tate being led away in handcuffs to a waiting police car.

A Romanian prosecutor states that the brothers, together with two other men, allegedly exploited women sexually and tricked them into recording pornographic material intended to be published on the Internet with the aim of making money for the men.

Andrew Tate's lawyer confirms the men have been arrested but says they have no comment on the allegations, Reuters reports.

Exchange of words with Thunberg

Tate was in the spotlight earlier this week after an exchange of words with Greta Thunberg.

He bragged about his 33 cars and their emissions and at the same time took the opportunity to mock the Swedish climate activist:

"Hello Greta Thunberg.

Please enter your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective massive emissions,” tweeted Tate, who was welcomed back to Twitter by Elon Musk.

Greta Thunberg replied shortly afterwards:

"Yes, please enlighten me, email me at smalldickenergy@getalife.com", something that has been widely spread globally.
