Here are the top five photos that won international photography awards in 2022:

1- “Janet”

British photographer Henley Spears won the Grand Prize at the “Hamdan International Prize for Photography” through the photo entitled “Janet” of a bird of the “gannet” species that lives in the north of the British island, and swims in a barrage of bubbles resulting from its diving and rapid movement in the water.

The picture shows the movement of the bird as if it were a storm inside the water, as it combs the movement of the water in search of prey, while its long wings and streamlined body seem to facilitate the rapid movement of the bird.

2- “The Pain of War”

The International Photography Award awarded the Photographer of the Year award in 2022 to American photographer Paula Bronstein, for a series of photos she took while covering the Ukrainian-Russian war.

The well-known photographer in the field of photojournalism, where she worked for many news agencies, most notably the Getty Agency, presented a group of photos documenting the suffering and pain of war, with all its devastation that leaves its effects on all forms of daily life, material and moral as well.

3- «Bee Ball»

American photographer Karen Aigner won the National Geographic Grand Prix for her photo "Bee's Ball". This photo was taken in Texas on a warm spring morning after a female cactus bee emerged from its underground tube nest, where she faced dozens of male bees that scrambled for a chance to mate with her.

Wagner waited on the ground for a long time to catch a swarm of raging bees, noting that cactus bees are major pollinators of native plants in Texas.

4- “The Immigrants”

Australian photographer Adam Ferguson won the Sony International Award for his work “The Migrants”, which is a series of black and white self-portraits he took of migrants in Mexico as they waited to cross the border into the United States of America.

The pictures were taken in cooperation with the owners of the pictures, as Ferguson prepared the scene for each picture, by installing the camera holder and placing the cable with the ability to control the capture of the picture, in order to allow the owners of the pictures to participate in documenting their lives.

5- «Laundry Day»

French photographer Clementine Schneiderman won the Taylor Wessing Prize for Photography, for her series of photographs documenting daily routines during the lockdown and quarantine period that accompanied the Corona pandemic.

And the French photographer took these pictures, on a special day for laundry in South Wales, Britain, for a group of neighbors hanging laundry in the gardens, to document the state of quarantine and isolation, and the quiet time when it was difficult to approach the other.
