Specialists: Tomorrow's generations need a positive relationship with heritage

Under the title "Heritage Media between Stereotypes and Loss of Identity", the branch of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage in Dibba Al-Hisn organized yesterday a discussion session, in which the media advisor Abdullah Al-Shehhi, the artist Dr. While the media session was moderated by Hussein Al-Amiri, in the presence of a group of specialists in the heritage and media fields.

Ahmed Al-Bairaq said, “The session highlighted the importance of the complementary relationship between the media and institutions working in the heritage sector, and the role of these institutions in reaching the goals and objectives aimed at preserving heritage and transmitting it between generations in a correct manner, and in spreading a culture of interest in heritage among all segments of society in terms of respect.” Knowledgeable, cultural and popular, in light of the youth’s preoccupation with other matters and interests.”

He added that the session came up with a set of proposals and ideas that help in developing heritage media, finding innovative tools and programs that keep pace with the times, and address the typical or traditional case of some media institutional efforts related to heritage and serving its various elements and components.

Al-Bairaq referred to the institute's academic role through its professional diplomas, its various activities and programs in promoting the scientific and knowledge dimension specialized in dealing with heritage, in line with the efforts of the Emirate of Sharjah in preserving heritage and preserving identity.

For their part, Habib Ghuloom and Abdullah Al-Shehhi emphasized the necessity of introducing community members to heritage, linking them to it as a national and social value, and properly establishing generations since childhood on caring for it, and forming a positive and creative concept with it.

They stressed the need to consolidate the status of Emirati heritage, encourage access to heritage monuments, and visit museums of various kinds in the country, which is a role played by institutions, officials and parents alike.

The speakers called for building a fruitful relationship between heritage and media institutions, especially since the state allocates a lot of human and financial resources to take care of the heritage aspect.

The session witnessed interventions and discussions from the audience, which contributed to enriching its axes and opening broader horizons in media efforts to support heritage.

On the sidelines of the session, some paragraphs and accompanying artistic activities were organized, with the participation of the rebab player, the artist Obaid Al-Shuwain, and a live drawing with the plastic artist Ibdaa Al-Hammadi, in addition to heritage workshops, in cooperation with the Emirati Crafts Center.
