The song is based on a Ukrainian fox song that gained particular attention when singer Andrij Chlyvnyuk of the Ukrainian band Boombox posted a video on Instagram of him in uniform singing the song a cappella.

He then gave Pink Floyd permission to use his vocal track for "Hey Hey Rise Up," which was released in April and is the band's first new song in 30 years.

Of the revenue from the song, £450,000 comes from sales and streaming of the song, the remaining £50,000 has been donated by band members David Gilmour and Nick Mason.

The money is to be distributed between five different aid organizations in Ukraine.

Different political views

David Gilmour, who has family in Ukraine, stopped Pink Floyd's music from being played in Russia and Belarus shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Gilmour's former bandmate and one of Pink Floyd's founders, Roger Waters, has a different take on the ongoing war.

He has been criticized earlier this year for what are considered pro-Putin statements.

Something that led to the cancellation of several planned concerts in Poland.

Waters left the band in 1985 and the two legends both before and after had difficulty getting along.

A reunion now, if possible, seems further away than ever.
