At the end of the year, a large kadomatsu with a height of 3 meters was decorated at the entrance of Nijo Castle, a world heritage site in Kyoto.

At Nijo Castle in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, every year at this time of year, a kadomatsu with a height of about 3 meters is decorated in front of the Higashi Otemon gate.

On the morning of the 28th, six gardeners from a landscaping company commissioned by the city got to work, attaching pine branches to the three bamboo branches on the foundation.

Then, after inserting plum trees and arranging the bamboo and plum blossoms, the shape was adjusted with lucky charms such as Nandina and cedar leaves.

Masashi Torii, manager of the general affairs section of Kyoto City's Nijo Castle office, said, "We want visitors to enjoy the New Year's atmosphere with a large kadomatsu that is suitable for a large gate."

The kadomatsu of Nijo Castle will be displayed until the 16th of next month.

Nijo Castle will be closed for three days from the 29th, but the kadomatsu can be seen from the nearby streets during that time.
