The Metropolitan Expressway has put together a plan for a new large-scale renovation, saying that deterioration has become serious in a 22-kilometer section, including the Haneda Tunnel on the No. 1 Haneda Line.

The operating cost is expected to reach 300 billion yen.

It has been 60 years since the first opening of the Metropolitan Expressway, and aging has become an issue. Since 2014, 64 km of the total length of 327 km has undergone large-scale renovation work.

Subsequent inspections revealed that there were 22 kilometers of sections that needed further repairs, and a new construction plan was put together.

Of these, the undersea tunnel "Haneda Tunnel" on the No. 1 Haneda Line will be undergoing large-scale repairs such as flood control, as it is often necessary to restrict traffic due to water leakage due to aging.

In addition, the Arakawa Wangan Bridge on the high-speed bay shore line has been confirmed to have serious damage such as corrosion and breakage of some members, so it will be reinforced and painted with high durability.

During the construction period, bridges that are not currently in operation will be detoured to minimize the impact on traffic.

The cost is expected to be about 300 billion yen, and the Metropolitan Expressway will coordinate financial resources with the national government in the future.

The government is considering postponing the timing of ``free highway tolls'' in 2065 to secure financial resources.
