Livresdesophie, bookstagramer and new contributor to the 20 Minutes Books reading group, recommends "Bigoudis and Small Investigations: Panic at the Funeral Directors" by Naëlle Charles, published on October 6, 2022 by Éditions Archipel.

His favorite quote:

Oh, but she'll calm down right away, Fantômette!

Otherwise, I'm going to serve him a remonstrance made in Delval which will straighten his blow-dry!

Why this book?

  • Because this book allows us to enjoy a cozy

French-style, or rather Alsatian-style, mystery, which is very original and moves away from the #sobritish humor we are used to.

A pleasant atmosphere and above all, "like at home".

  • Because the characters are quite funny and their relationships

    realistic.

These are the characters we can easily identify with: Léo (because I feel like I've known her for a little while) and Quentin.

We all have a friend or relative who annoys us from time to time, but without whom we could not live.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

In this second volume, the investigation, always well paced, takes place around Tom's high school (Leo's son).

There are some pretty interesting topics: the dangers of social media that mainly concerns teens, the appearances and status quo of a family, the influence of our past, etc.

Characters.

I had the pleasure of meeting Léo, Quentin and the whole group.

I love discovering more and more other Wahlbourg characters.

They are funny, endearing and very believable.

Places.

The story takes place in Wahlbourg, in Alsace, where Léopoldine runs her hairdressing salon and conducts investigations.

This changes us a bit from the novels that take place in England.

And above all, who was going to imagine that there could be so many events in a small village like this?

The time.

It's a current novel and what's even funnier is to see Léo struggling to understand the language of young people ("Snap", "un nudes", "je tej", etc.)… Oh la la, what would we do without the new generations!

The author.

Novelist and mother of four children, she has published nearly thirty books since 2012. However, from 2018, she aspires to something else where humor rubs shoulders with suspense, thus appears Bigoudis & Petites Enquêtes, first in the self-publishing and then, at Archipel.

This is the second volume.

This book was read

in one go.

I was looking forward to it after reading volume 1 at the beginning of the year.

There is even more humor, more twists in the investigation and more romance too... A novel with a beautiful ending that makes our mouths water while waiting for the next release
