New year and abundant opportunities

Happy New Year, and we can only “have a good time” in our new year, hoping that wars and conflicts will end, whether at the level of countries or individuals.

We always find ourselves reminiscing about the memories and events of the year, to stand on what we have accomplished, and what we have not been able to complete, as well as what we have not even begun to implement, and in all cases, praise and thanks be to God for everything.

Whether the past year was a fruitful year or not, and whatever our psychological, financial and social situation, there are many things that we can do, and they are sufficient not only to make us happy, but also to make others happy.

We can always and forever seek the help of the Lord, the Almighty, to fulfill our needs, and we can “have a good time” in all circumstances.

It is nice to give alms, even with a word or a smile, just as we can pardon and forgive, we can help a needy person or solve a problem for someone.

And whenever we are given from God upon us, “So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it * And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it” (Al-Zalzalah 7-8).

I have met people who have tried to commit suicide previously, but there are those who took their hands, helped them return to normal life, and stand on their feet again, and there are people who went through complex problems that could destroy their lives, but with the help of others they succeeded in overcoming their problems and getting out of the crisis, and on the contrary, there are 2,700 people commit suicide every day, they were unable to find someone to take their hand, and there are people who fight silent battles, lonely, isolated, suffering without anyone paying attention to them, not even a kind word.

Even within the framework of one family, life may take us, and we forget the closest people to us, our life partner or our children, until we are shocked by a major shock, God forbid, and we realize what we have missed, so the new year is an opportunity, but rather new opportunities, and new hopes, in order to be better. than we were in the previous year.

We can simply adopt new practices to help others, and the help does not necessarily have to be material, but it can be with advice, guidance, attention, and even just real listening to them without judging or blaming them.

One of my colleagues at work has a beautiful habit, where she helps five homeless people every month, even for a small amount, and sometimes hosts them for dinner or lunch. Another colleague helps people he does not know to master the English language, and others buy “online” training courses and gift the course to people in need. them to develop their skills.

There is no doubt that each of us has skills and knowledge that can benefit other people, and therefore volunteering some time to help others will have the greatest impact on their lives. The most important thing is, as I always point out in this column, that we pay attention to those closest to us, especially those who depend on us, and we are the source of safety. For them, we do not forget our responsibility towards them, especially children who are affected by the simplest things, and our actions may leave an impact that lasts with them for life, whether the effect is good or vice versa.

There is always an opportunity to start and try, and it is better to start late than never.

Happy new year, and a happy and fruitful new beginning, God willing.
