Regarding the spent nuclear fuel reprocessing plant being constructed in Rokkasho Village, Aomori Prefecture, the operator "Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd." postponed the target completion date by about two years from "the first half of this fiscal year" to "the first half of fiscal 2024." I reported to the prefecture that I will do it as soon as possible.

The reprocessing plant under construction in Rokkasho Village, Aomori Prefecture, is a facility to extract reusable plutonium from spent nuclear fuel emitted from nuclear power plants. The target completion date was postponed, and the new time was announced within the year.

Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd. President Naohiro Masuda visited the Aomori Prefectural Government on the 26th and reported to Governor Mimura that the target completion date would be delayed by about two years to "as early as possible in the first half of fiscal 2024."

In this, President Masuda made it clear to the Nuclear Regulation Authority that he had submitted the final application for safety measures construction plans and other matters to the Nuclear Regulation Authority on the 26th. I showed the outlook that it will take about 4 months to 7 months.

And he asked for understanding, saying, "We are in the final stages of construction, and we will work to start operations as soon as possible."

In response, Governor Mimura said, ``It is important to steadily proceed with the timing shown this time.''

The reprocessing plant was originally planned to be completed 25 years ago in 1997, but it has been postponed 26 times due to repeated problems.
