[Explanation] Recently, it is the crushing season for sugar in Guangxi.

In Dongmen Town, Fusui County, Chongzuo City, contiguous pieces of sugarcane merge into a "sea of sugarcane".

Cutting down these sugarcanes and sending them to sugar factories has created a large demand for labor, attracting workers from all over the world to cut sugarcane, many of whom are work-study students.

[Explanation] Liang Mingjian from Yunfu Technician College in Guangdong Province and his companions went to Chongzuo City to cut sugar cane.

In the sugarcane field, they cut and peeled each other to cooperate with each other, and bundled the sugarcane into bundles.

It is their expectation to make some money before the Chinese New Year.

At the beginning, I wanted to find someone to enter the factory, but there was no one from years ago, and then (the intermediary) recommended us to come here, and planned to earn three or four thousand to go home before the year.

Because there are too many rules in the factory, there is no freedom at fixed points. This (cutting sugarcane) work is free, but cutting sugarcane is a bit tiring.

This is the second day, I just started working yesterday, and I don’t earn more than a hundred or ten yuan a day, so I can earn some living expenses for myself and reduce the burden on my family.

[Explanation] Legu Riri and two friends from Liangshan, Sichuan also came to cut sugarcane across provinces. After four or five days of proficiency in the work, the efficiency of cutting sugarcane increased greatly, and began to approach the more than 200 yuan a day for skilled workers.

We just came here, and the cuts were not very good when we first came here. Uncles and aunts can still do it, more than two hundred a day, (can you reach more than 100 a day?) Yes.

[Explanation] Sugarcane farmers and workers rush to harvest sugarcane every day. This scene is happening in many places in Guangxi.

In addition to work-study students, many social laborers who do not meet the conditions for working in factories also earn a good income from sugarcane harvesting.

Many factories do not accept older workers (people) in the manufacturing industry, such as workers aged 55 and 58.

According to the characteristics of agriculture, firstly, the older ones can be accepted, and secondly, their wages are also acceptable.

So we arrange older workers in agriculture. This year, Vietnamese workers are not open (entry), and there is a big (employment) gap on our side. Our company comes from all over the country, such as Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, In Gansu and Qinghai, some older workers were organized to cut sugarcane here in Guangxi.

[Explanation] The sugar industry is a traditional advantageous industry in Guangxi. Guangxi's sugar cane planting area and sugar production have accounted for more than 60% of China for 18 consecutive years.

Chongzuo City is known as the "Sugar Capital of China". There are about 1.2 million sugarcane farmers. The annual per capita income of sugarcane cultivation alone reaches more than 8,400 yuan. During the 2021-2022 crop season, the income of sugarcane farmers will exceed 10 billion yuan.
