The Archives and the National Library organized a lecture entitled “History… Basics and Motivations”, in cooperation with the Society for Social Development, in which Fatima Al Mazrouei, Head of the Historical Archives Department, spoke about a group of important concepts in the science of history, and other related sciences, and the methodological foundations of research. historical, and scientific techniques in it.

Al-Mazrouei began her lecture by addressing the importance of history as a motivator and motivation for a person to progress, stressing that this is what the founder and builder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God bless his soul, wanted when he said: “He who does not know his past cannot live his present and future.”

Al Mazrouei noted the interest of the Archives Department and the National Library in establishing a modern national library that collects the country's cultural heritage and serves as a civilized and cultural beacon for the United Arab Emirates.

Then I briefly reviewed the history of the archive and the National Library, since its inception in 1968, under the guidance of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in order to document the history of the Emirates, and then turned to the stages of its development until 2022, and the changes that occurred in its tasks and names, and the most prominent federal laws that were issued to preserve on documents and limiting their waste or destruction, then reviewed the vision and mission, values ​​and tasks of the archive and the national library;

His perseverance in documenting recent developments by preserving administrative documents, encouraging the preparation of specialized research and studies, and organizing or participating in major conferences and seminars;

Pointing out his great role in collecting, preserving and making available historical documents, and providing information to researchers and academics interested in the history and heritage of the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region.

The lecture, which was presented through communication techniques, touched on the Arab and foreign collections held by the Archives and the National Library, such as: Qasr al-Hosn Archives, the Cooperation Council Archives, the Contemporary Archives, and a number of other international archives such as the British, American, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, and other archives. The archives with which the Archive and the National Library continue to communicate, with the aim of cooperation, and the acquisition of more records, documents and historical materials.
