A staff member in charge of salary administration at the Kanto Transport Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Yokohama City has been dismissed from his job for punitive punishment for overstating his salary by 14 million yen over the course of about a year and a half.
The inflated salary was 2.47 million yen in the month with the highest amount.
The person who received disciplinary dismissal was a male employee in his 30s who was in charge of salary affairs at the Kanto District Transport Bureau.
According to the Kanto District Transport Bureau, the employee illegally inflated his salary and bonus by about 14.75 million yen from August last year to this month.
The inflated salary was 2.47 million yen in the highest month, and another staff member noticed the fraud this month.
He admitted fraud in an interview with the Kanto District Transport Bureau and explained that he used it to pay off debts and entertainment expenses.
The Kanto District Transport Bureau commented, ``We deeply apologize for betraying trust.We will do our best to prevent recurrence and restore trust.''
