The distribution of Christmas gifts is fast approaching.

But if these gifts make children happy, they are above all very polluting.

Every year, no less than 100,000 tonnes of toys are thrown away in France.

Faced with this observation, the Rejoué association, based in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne), has set up an ecological initiative.

It rehabilitates old toys to give them a longer lifespan, reports France 3 Ile-de-France.

The operation begins with a collection carried out with partner companies.

Then, the employees of the association take care of the sorting.

"About 50% of the toys we collect are thrown away," says the founder of Rejoué.

The other half is categorized before being refurbished.

The toys are then resold at half price in two Parisian sales outlets or given to children during charitable operations.

Created in 2012, the Rejoué association has met with great success with its ecological and economic initiative.

In addition, it seeks to promote professional reintegration.

“We have more than 60% women in the workshop, often single parents.

The objective is to help them get out of precariousness, ”adds the director of the structure.
